How it plays

The gambit

In chess, a gambit means giving something up to win something bigger. Prison Gambit runs on that idea.

To win, you first have to give: your points, your word, maybe the next round. All of it buys one thing: trust. You need the others to believe you.

Private · one call at a time

The cell

It starts in your cell, with a video intercom on the wall. Call another inmate and watch their character on the screen: every emote, every button they press. Who makes a good ally? Who can be played? Who's dangerous? Who will sell you out? And who is lying to you right now? You have to work it out through that screen, one call at a time.

Public · face to face

The hall

Then you walk into the hall, where everyone is face to face. The inmate you made a promise to five minutes ago sits at the same table as the one who hung up on you. Scores get settled. Secret alliances come out. One minigame ends, and another alliance falls apart before the night is over.

The hall, surrounded by numbered cells.

The end of the night

Only one walks free

Nobody escapes as a team. The inmate next to you isn't your teammate, just a temporary ally. You're friends until you're across the bridge. After that, watch your back.

One door. One winner.
